Attending: Jan Llewellyn, Barbara Stevens, Jan Cliggott, Sandy Laliberte, David Wilbur, Barbara King, Nancy Sandberg, Carol Beckloff, Linda Baker, and Sid Barre.  Hid Welch also attended the meeting.

Jan Llewellyn invited the committee and liaisons to her home to share dinner before our meeting. Everyone brought a dish or dessert to share.

Jan opened the meeting with a reading of our church’s mission statement.

Hid reported news that Church Committee has approved new heating system for our facility.  And study of basement moisture problem may find water table too close to cellar floor.

Minutes: Jan C moved to accept minutes as recorded, seconded and approved unanimously.

Treasurer’s Report: Barb S reported that our balance is unchanged, $377.08. Petty cash is now 66.51 after 7.50 in expenses.  Our current supplies should last though end of year.

Jan L opened discussion for comment on our summer services. Observations discussed:

Baptism and communion on same Sunday made worship service too much for one Deacon of the Day.  An advance notice would be very helpful at least a few days prior.

Sanctuary was too hot sometimes.  Natural ventilation helped somewhat but needs to be started before Sunday morning.

How should we respond when asked about the absence of 8am service and plans for next summer.

Guest musicians played too long one Sunday.  They should be limited so that their performance doesn’t turn worship service into a recital. Aug 10.

Applause is distasteful and disruptive to many during the worship service, others feel that applause is spontaneous and natural reaction to beautiful musical offerings.

Perhaps everyone is moving around too much during passing of the peace?

JanL and BarbS will meet with Rev. Terry concerning these topics so we can decide on any policies for these concerns.

Old business:  Committee discussed House committee’s response to our letter regards weekend coverage by Sexton, especially Sundays. We need assistance setting up tables in particular, but have run into building and grounds problems on Sunday mornings.

Committee discussed need for nominating committee to replace the empty position on the Diaconate Committee.  Each committee person is charged with supplying one nomination for our committee.

We agreed that a list of persons capable and willing to assist in medical emergencies should be made available Sundays to the Deacon of the Day. JanL and DaveW to compose an open letter to send potential volunteers asking permission to be called upon in a medical emergency at church on a Sunday morning, should one arise again.   Their availability to help in a medical situation would not change the first course of action will be to call 911 .

Also, our First Aid boxes are in need of attention. When we recently needed to attend to an accident in the building the first aid boxes were found wanting.  We feel that these boxes should be maintained by the House committee, and the problem should be brought to their attention.

Meeting adjourned, closing meditation by Barbara King.
