| Our
Church School, under the direction of Patty Eldridge, has a varied
curriculum that will appeal to a wide range of learning styles.
Each month of the school year, the children in grades K-6, study
the same Biblical theme using age-appropriate lessons. By using
spiritual, artistic and physical resources, we hope to achieve our
Christian Education goal of bringing each child a little closer
to the realization of the love God has for all of us.
I like to pick Biblical themes throughout the year. We have the
children spend one, two or even three Sundays on a theme, depending
on that theme. This way the children will better remember the theme
and make it fun for them as well. We use coloring pages, worksheets
of various games or puzzles and crafts relating to the themes. Then
the theme is read out of a children's Bible, ending each Sunday
school morning with a prayer. Other fun things we do may be to sing
songs or play a game. Periodically, Rev. Terry will incorporate
a time for children within the service. Also the children will use
a small part of a service to lead us with a special performance
during some holidays throughout the course of the year.
Ann Joy is my Sunday school volunteer, and I enjoy working with
her very much. We work well together and she loves working with
the children as much as I do. She's been a member of our church
for many years and has a grandson, Samuel Joy, enrolled in our Sunday
school.
About the Summer?
At the Federated Church of Hyannis, our Sunday school classes do
not end with the traditional school year. A summer Sunday school
is always planned for the months of July and August. It is a slightly
shortened version of our regular school year Sunday school classes.
Who volunteers their time to the Sunday school?
Any person who has been a member of the church for at least six
months is eligible to be a Sunday school teacher. What it really
takes is a person like Ann Joy or myself who loves kids and who
loves God, and who wants kids to know about our loving God. (By
law, a CORI check must be on all volunteers before working with
children.) Most of the curriculum materials are prepared in advance
by the Director to create a comfortable class time. It is a calling
of privilege to be able to see Jesus Christ, through his Holy Spirit,
come into the lives of the children of the Sunday school.
Please give Patty Eldridge (508-420-0993) a call if you have any
questions.
